I stumbled upon this very long preview/trailer of the upcoming movie, Thor. I am a sucker for all Super Hero movies. Admittedly, I do not know the story of Thor. I guess I will have to wait until May 2011 to find out.

star trek - rebirth

I did it! I saw J.J. Abram's vision for Star Trek this weekend. Owning the inner-geek that I love, I had high hopes and uncontrollable anticipation for the film. This space opera is very shiny and stylized. Its geek + trendy = artsy. I admit it proudly, I loved it. I am already planning my second viewing. Who's coming with me?

I saw the movie in the Hollywood Arclight Cinema. If you're not familiar with Arclight, read about it here or take a nicely produced tour here. It's the only way to do movies these days. The only minus is their lack of an IMAX screen. Maybe one day.

In typical fashion, Arclight provided some props from the film to admire and of course allow me to take pictures so I may blog all about it. See, inner-geek coing out. Thanks Arclight.

It's sad to report that the man behind the infamous voice of Hollywood has died. Don LaFontaine passed away due to illness on Monday, 9/1. I am going to miss his voice that was practically everywhere. He could be found in previews, movies, commercials, and the list goes on. In tribute, here's a few links to visit.

nightmare coming to blu-ray

I am sooo excited. The Nightmare Before Christmas is coming to blu-ray August 26th. Per the information on the wire, the picture and sounds are wonderfully rich while there are a few brand new extras. Another cool feature included in this purchase will be a digital file available for the consumer to download in your choice of iTunes or Windows format. We finally do not have to buy two copies just to have one on DVD and one for my iPhone. Fox has done this for a just a little while with some of their DVDs. It's about time the rest of the studios catch up. Yay for technology!

the princess and the frog

Enjoy the new trailer for Disney's re-entry into 2D animation, The Princess and The Frog. On a side note, it's Disney's first black princess. I'm looking forward to it. What about you?

where the wild things are

I stumbled upon this video of an early (1983) digital animation screen test. The oh so famous children's story, "Where the Wild Things Are" was used as the story. This test was directed by the once before and now again Disney employee, John Lasseter. One can clearly see his interest in computer animation before heading off to Pixar. Wouldn't it be great to see Disney/Pixar pick the film idea up again. Since Warner Bros has already filmed a live action version that is slated for October 2009, I guess Disney is out of the picture. Enjoy!

The Dark Knight

It's the big weekend. The new Batman film opened and I just happen to make it to the theatre. Sunday, 9:30 am! The others showings were almost sold out. So I sacrificed my Sunday morning.

And I am so glad I did. What a terrific film. It was long, intense, dark, and a bit creepy. I was engaged the entire time. Just when I thought it was about over and the plot/scenario was discovered, there goes another detail. Even with the inflated running time of 2 hours and 40 minutes, I still found myself involved the entire time.

On a side note, you will notice there is no blood in the film at all. In all of the intensity and yes, violence, still no blood or gore.
